Understanding Containers
Containers are storage locations for your items: backpacks, pouches, chests, and more.
Container Types
| Type | Owner | Who Can Access |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | Your character | Only you |
| Party | The party | All members |
Default Containers
Every new character starts with two containers:
| Container | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Equipped | Worn, held, or readied items (armor, weapons, rings) |
| Backpack | General adventuring gear |
Tip
Keep frequently-used items in Equipped for quick reference during combat. Put everything else in your Backpack or other containers.
Container Properties
Each container can have:
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | ”Backpack”, “Belt Pouch”, etc. |
| Weight limit | Maximum pounds/kg (optional, leave blank for no limit) |
| Slot limit | Maximum item stacks (optional, leave blank for no limit) |
| Bulk limit | Maximum bulk for PF2e parties (optional, leave blank for no limit) |
| Description | Notes about the container |
| Extradimensional | Contents do not count toward character encumbrance (PF2e/bulk mode only) |
Extradimensional Containers
Some magic items (Bag of Holding, Portable Hole) have interior space that does not add to your encumbrance. In PF2e/bulk mode parties, you can mark a container as extradimensional and its contents will not count against your character’s bulk limits.
Warning
Extradimensional containers still have their own internal limits. A Bag of Holding can hold a set amount, but that bulk does not count toward your character.
Adding Items
From the Item Picker
The Item Picker is a slide-out panel for discovering and adding items to any container.
Web:
- Open the party inventory page
- Click the + button on any container header
- The Item Picker sheet slides out with four tabs:
- Marketplace — Browse the full item catalog with search and filters
- My Items — Items you have created or previously used
- Collections — Your saved item collections
- Party — Items already in your party’s inventory
- Search for an item, then choose a quantity and confirm
Discord:
/add item:Longsword
/add item:Healing Potion quantity:5
Creating Custom Items
When you cannot find what you need in the marketplace, use Quick Create inside the Item Picker:
Web:
- Open the Item Picker (click + on any container)
- Click Quick Create Item at the bottom of the sheet
- Fill in name, description, system, rarity, value, and weight
- Click Create & Add to create the item and add it to the container, or Create Only to save it for later
For more detailed item creation, click Open full editor at the bottom of the Quick Create form.
Discord:
/add item:Flaming Sword of Doom
If no marketplace match is found, a custom item is created with default values.
Info
Custom items are saved to your collection for reuse. You can publish them to the marketplace later.
Managing Items
Common Actions
Click any item to open the item detail panel, which provides these actions:
| Action | Web | Discord |
|---|---|---|
| View inventory | Party page > Inventory tab | /inventory |
| Change quantity | Click item > +/- stepper buttons | /item name:Potion then update |
| Add notes | Click item > Notes field | N/A (web only) |
| Split stack | Click item > overflow menu > Split Stack | N/A (web only) |
| Remove item | Click item > overflow menu > Remove Item | /remove item:name quantity:all |
| Give to another character | Click item > Give to… button | /give item:name user:@Alice |
Moving Items Between Containers
Drag and drop: On the web, drag any item from one container and drop it onto another. This works across personal containers, between characters, and to or from party containers.
Give Item dialog: Click an item to open its detail panel, then click Give to…. Select a recipient character and target container, choose a quantity (for stacks), and confirm the transfer.
Discord: Moving items between your own containers is not yet supported via Discord. Use the web interface for container organization.
Creating Containers
Web Interface
- In the party inventory view, click Add Container (in the Party Containers section header)
- Enter a name and optional description
- Set optional weight and slot limits (leave blank for no limit)
- For PF2e/bulk mode parties, additional bulk settings appear: bulk limit, bulk negation, and an extradimensional checkbox
- Click Create
Setting Limits
Any limit can be left blank for no limit:
- Weight limit: Maximum total weight (blank = no limit)
- Slot limit: Maximum item stacks (blank = no limit)
- Bulk limit: Maximum bulk for PF2e games (blank = no limit)
Warning
Deleting a container deletes all items inside! Transfer items to another container first.
Encumbrance Indicators
Each container and character shows a capacity bar:
| Color | Capacity | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Cyan | 0—75% | Plenty of room |
| Yellow/Amber | 75—100% | Encumbered — getting full |
| Red | 100%+ | Overencumbered — at or over limit |
Your character also shows total encumbrance across all containers. The default thresholds are 75% (encumbered) and 100% (overencumbered), but your GM can adjust these in party settings.
Learn More
See the Encumbrance Systems concept guide for details on weight, slots, bulk, and game system support.
Party Home
The Party Home page is your hub for everything happening in the party. It shows:
- Collapsible party header with party art, description, game system, encumbrance mode, member count, and join code
- Party net worth — combined value of all characters’ inventories (hover for per-character breakdown)
- Unidentified items — mystery items awaiting identification, with quick links for the GM to manage reveals
- Shops — preview of active shops deployed to the party (up to 3), with links to browse and buy
- Loot — preview of recent loot drops (up to 3), with item counts and total value
- Recent activity — a sidebar feed of the latest inventory transactions (gives, purchases, spawns)
Party Collaboration
Giving Items
Give to any character via the Give dialog:
- Click an item to open its detail panel
- Click Give to…
- Select the recipient character and target container
- Choose a quantity (for stacks)
- Confirm the transfer
Via drag and drop: Drag an item directly onto another character’s container on the inventory page.
Discord:
/give item:Healing Potion quantity:2 user:@Alice
Warning
You can give items freely, but you cannot take from other players’ personal containers (unless you are the GM).
Viewing Party Inventory
Web: Party page > Inventory tab. All party members can see everyone’s inventory. Your own characters appear at the top.
Discord:
/party inventory
GM Tools
GMs have access to additional tools on the party inventory page.
Spawn Panel
The GM Spawn Panel is a collapsible toolbar at the top of the inventory page. It has two modes:
Spawn Item: Enter an item name, optional weight, value, and quantity. Select any container in the party (personal or shared) as the target and click Spawn Item.
Spawn Currency: Select a currency type (gold, silver, copper, electrum, or platinum), enter an amount, choose a target container, and click Spawn Currency.
This is useful for distributing treasure during sessions without needing to search the marketplace.
CSV Export
GMs can export the entire party’s inventory as a CSV file. Click the export button at the top-right of the inventory page. The export includes character name, container name, item name, quantity, weight, value, and rarity for every item across all characters and party containers.
Tips for Organization
Recommended Container Setup
| Container | Contents |
|---|---|
| Equipped | Armor, weapons, worn items |
| Backpack | General adventuring gear |
| Belt Pouch | Frequently used consumables |
| Quiver | Ammunition |
| Coin Purse | Currency (keeps gold handy for shops) |
Best Practices
- Create purpose-specific containers for easier mid-session access
- Put currency in its own container for quick shop transactions
- Use party containers for shared resources like rope, rations, torches
- Review before sessions to organize when not under time pressure
Common Questions
Can I have unlimited containers? Yes! Create as many as you need.
What if I am overencumbered? Depends on party settings. Some parties enforce limits (cannot add more items), others just show warnings.
Can I use ScryMarket entirely from Discord? Yes for core inventory actions. Web offers additional features like drag-and-drop, the Item Picker, container management, and visual organization.
How do stacks work? A stack is a group of identical items. Each stack uses one slot regardless of quantity. Max stack size varies by item type.
What is an extradimensional container? A container whose contents do not count toward your character’s encumbrance. Available in PF2e/bulk mode parties for items like Bags of Holding.
Item Identification
ScryMarket includes a full identification system for mystery items with a 3-step spawn wizard, GM request management, and cinematic Scrying Reveal animations that play for the entire party in real time.
