Understand ScryMarket's subscription tiers, limits, and special programs like Power Hour, Round Table, and Patronage.

Overview

ScryMarket uses a freemium model with a generous free tier. Most players will never need to pay. Power users and GMs running multiple campaigns may want to upgrade for unlimited features.

Philosophy

We want ScryMarket accessible to everyone. The free tier is designed to be fully functional for casual players, with paid tiers unlocking power-user features.

Understanding Limits

Types of Limits

Accumulative Examples:

  • Personal inventory actions (adding/removing items)

State-based Examples:

What Counts as an “Action”?

Personal Actions:

  • Adding items to your character’s containers
  • Removing items from your character’s containers
  • Modifying item quantities in personal inventory

Party Actions:

  • Adding items to party containers
  • Removing items from party containers
  • Party shop transactions

Info

Both personal and party actions count toward monthly limits, but they’re tracked separately. This lets you prioritize how you use your quota.

Special Programs

Power Hour

What It Is: A 60-minute grace period when you hit your monthly action limit.

How It Works:

  1. You hit your personal or party action limit
  2. Instead of blocking you immediately, Power Hour activates
  3. You get 60 minutes of unlimited actions for that limit type
  4. After Power Hour expires, you’re blocked until your billing period resets

Warning

Power Hour is for “session emergency” scenarios. It activates once per billing period per limit type (personal and party have separate Power Hours).

Round Table

What It Is: Free-tier GMs get unlimited party actions when their entire party is paid.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 party members
  • 100% of party members must be on paid tiers (Player, GM, or Patron)
  • GM can remain on Free tier

Example:

  • You (GM) are on Free tier
  • Your party has 4 players, all on Player tier
  • Round Table activates: You now have unlimited party actions!

Why Round Table?

We believe GMs shouldn’t be penalized for running games. If your players value ScryMarket enough to pay, you shouldn’t have to as well.

Patronage System

What It Is: Patrons can sponsor parties, giving all members unlimited party actions.

How It Works:

  1. Patron joins a party
  2. Patron enables Patronage for that party
  3. All party members now have unlimited party actions within that party

Limits:

  • One Patron can sponsor one party at a time
  • Patronage only applies to party actions (personal limits still apply)

Billing Details

Billing Period

Your usage resets based on your billing period, not calendar months:

  • Paid Users: Resets on your subscription anniversary (e.g., subscribed Jan 15 → resets Feb 15)
  • Free Users: Resets on your account creation anniversary

Annual vs Monthly

Monthly Billing:

  • Pay month-to-month
  • Cancel anytime
  • No commitment

Annual Billing:

  • Pay once per year
  • 20% discount (2.4 months free)
  • Refund policy available

Changing Plans

Upgrades:

  • Take effect immediately
  • Prorated charges for remaining billing period
  • New features available instantly

Downgrades:

  • Scheduled for end of current billing period
  • Keep current features until period ends
  • No refund for remaining time

Founding Member Program

What It Is: First 100 paid subscribers get 30% off forever.

How It Works:

  • Coupon code: FOUNDER
  • Applied to your Stripe customer account
  • Discount survives cancellation and re-subscription
  • Limited to first 100 users (check availability)

Tip

Founding Member discount is stackable with annual billing. That’s 30% off + 20% annual = significant savings!

FAQ

Do party actions count toward my limit?

Yes, party actions have their own monthly limit separate from personal actions. Free tier gets 50 party actions/month, Player tier gets 500/month, and GM/Patron tiers are unlimited.

What happens when I hit my limit?

You’ll see a notification that you’ve hit your limit. Power Hour will activate, giving you 60 minutes to finish what you’re doing. After that, you can still:

  • View your inventory
  • Browse shops
  • Use features that don’t count as actions

Can I check my current usage?

Yes! Use /usage in Discord or go to Settings > Subscription on the web to see:

  • Current tier
  • Usage this period
  • Billing period dates
  • Power Hour status

What if I’m in multiple parties?

Limits are account-wide, not per-party. If you’re in 5 parties, you still have the same limits as someone in 1 party.

Do shop deployments count as actions?

No. Deploying shops counts against your concurrent shop limit (state-based), not your action count (accumulative).

What about AI requests?

AI-generated items count toward your AI limit, which is separate from inventory actions. Creating items manually (without AI) doesn’t count against any limit.
